| Acorn Blackwork Band Sampler |
© Christine-Ann Martin |
A second blackwork band sampler illustrating a number of borders and motifs found on old English samplers worked in the mid to late seventeenth century, particularly borders featuring the acorn and oak leaf motif.
One of a series of four complementary designs.
Worked solely in black stranded cotton, the finished sampler is not only very attractive in it's own right but also serves it's traditional historical function of being a record of border patterns which could be used in other projects.
Companion designs are also available:
Carnation Band Sampler
Rose Band Sampler
Strawberry Band Sampler
as well as a bumper pack of all four:

Skill rating:
Although best suited to an embroiderer with some skill and experience, anyone looking for a medium sized Blackwork project would not have too much difficulty working this.
Size:
On 28 count fabric (over two threads) the stitched area measures 6" wide by 10" high (15.2cm x 25.4cm).
On 32 count fabric (over two threads) the stitched area measures 5.2" wide by 8.8" high (13.3cm x 22.2cm).
Stitches used:
Backstitch, cross stitch and some French knots.
Please note: design requires a substantial amount of backstitching.
We recommend working this on an evenweave or linen fabric. |
