Fourth in our blackwork band sampler series, this band sampler focusses mainly on the strawberry, a motif used on old samplers to signify perfect righteousness, the strawberry being a perfect fruit with no stones or pips.

One of a series of four complementary designs.

Worked solely in black stranded cotton, the finished sampler is not only very attractive in it's own right but also serves it's traditional historical function of being a record of border patterns which could be used in other projects.

Skill rating:
Although best suited to an embroiderer with some skill and experience, anyone looking for a medium sized Blackwork project would not have too much difficulty working this.

Size:
On 28 count fabric (over two threads) the stitched area measures 6" wide by 10" high (15.2cm x 25.4cm).
On 32 count fabric (over two threads) the stitched area measures 5.2" wide by 8.8" high (13.3cm x 22.2cm).

Stitches used:
Backstitch and cross stitching only.
Please note: design requires a substantial amount of backstitching.

We recommend working this on an evenweave or linen fabric.
