A delicate sampler based loosely on the traditional style of needlework samplers worked hundreds of years ago by young girls as part of their education.

The design uses ancient and modern alphabets together with traditionally used motifs and borders such as the strawberry and carnation borders.

What makes this piece more contemporary is the use of new threads such as Caron Wildflowers which creates a very pretty colour shading to the flowers in the central vase and elsewhere. The alphabets are stitched in graduating shades of stranded cottons whilst perlé cotton and tiny seed beads add texture and interest to the sampler.

Skill rating:
Would suit an embroiderer with some experience, but an enthusiastic beginner could also attempt this project as full instructions for working are supplied.

Size and materials:
On 28 count fabric (over two threads) the stitched area measures 10.4" wide by 13.7" high (35cm x 26cm) and uses 12 different colours of DMC stranded cotton, hand dyed Caron Wildflower thread, white perle cotton and pretty pearl seed beads.

We recommend working this on an evenweave or linen fabric.
